BREAK-INS: WHEN, WHERE, HOW

Who breaks in, and when? Thieves and/or burglars break in especially during the day, between noon and 8:00 p.m., and they generally choose target offering obstacles that are easily overcome.

Where do break-ins occur?According to statistics, more than 80% of burglars enter through a window or glass door and not, as is erroneously belived, through the front door of a single-family home or apartment

Who do break-ins occur? Burglars use simple tools to quickly remove a window. Almost 70% of windows are opened with a screwdriver whose blade is between 6 and 12 mm wide.

TOTAL PROTECTION ® SYSTEM

EUROLEGNO TOTAL PROTECTION ® SYSTEM

It is a special system integrated into the frame that protects your home from intrusion. With this system you can enable the alarm even when the window is tilted open.

Special IMQ contacts are inserted in the internal frame, which is then prepared for connection to the home’s alarm system.

In addiction to being extremely reliable, EUROLEGNO TOTAL PROTECTION ® SYSTEM has the advantage of being completely hidden for better aesthetics. This system can be interfaced with any alarm system.

DOMOTECH ® SYSTEM

EUROLEGNO DOMOTECH ® SYSTEM

A more evolved TOTAL PROTECTION ® SYSTEM with intelligent sensors. It allows:

  • Automatic monitoring of the window by means of a magnetic latch that follows the motion of the hardware and double-contact magnetic strike plate that recognizes the window three positions: closed, leaf open, leaf tilted.
  • Connection with surveillance or alarm systems, even by remote control. A double-contact magnetic strike plate detects a window in the “closed” position or, in the open “tilted” position, thus allowing ventilation without activating the alarm, such as in a bedroom or bathroom. The alarm is triggered only if the window is opened in the frame (leaf separated from the frame).
  • Energy savings thanks to a connection to a thermostat or air-conditioner. If the window is open (in the frame or tilted), heating or air-conditioning is automatically turned-off. This system can be interfaced with any advanced alarm system.

TRICOAT HARDWARE

Risk of rusting The exposure to weathering, humidity and pollution as well aspoor ventilation can lead to corrosion and result in the formation of rust. The new Tricoat mechanisms preserve the functionality of windows in all those places where the environmental conditions are particularly aggressive.

Coastal areas Processing of Tricoat mechanisms prevents corrosion of steel due to the typical weather conditions of coastal areas: strong humidity, strong condensation(night/day; winter/summer temperature differences) and a strong presence of chloride sodium.

Metropolitan and industrial areasIn these areas mechanisms have to protect themselves from other “aggressors” such as pollutants from industries, but also from traffic and domestic heating, from the products of combustion (turning into nitric acid and sulfuric acid, corrode metals) and, in some cases, also from acid rains.

Humid environments Where there is a lot of moisture and condensation, combined with poor ventilation, rust can easily generate: in cellars and basements very frequently, but also in new buildings. The increasingly short installation deadlines don’t let the structures “dry out” properly. When flats remain unsold for long periods moisture remains inside the fixtures and all this causes the corrosion of mechanisms.

Resistant to corrosion The resistance to potentially damaging conditions is demonstrated by several tests carried out in laboratories of Maico as well as in other laboratories, with different methodologies.

The salt fog test After exposure in a salt fog chamber with a NaCl 3.5% solution and temperature of 40°C (parameters envisaged by the ASTM B117), the Tricoat mechanisms showed effective resistance against corrosion. The test was carried out at the PIV, Velbert PRÜFINSTITUT, and at the Arsenal Research Institute of Wien.

Exposure to acids The image below shows the reaction (after ten minutes) of a Tricoat Cremona bolt and Cremona bolt with a traditional zincing on which drops of hydrochloric acid 33% and cleaning detergent were poured: the paint protected the Tricoat mechanism from corrosion.

Extreme conditions Tricoat mechanisms showed their resistance even in “real” conditions: installed by pilot customers in locations where environmental factors are extremely aggressive, after one year any damage due to corrosion was detected.

EXTREME-T PAINTING

For the exposure of the fixtures to temperatures below 20 ° C and above 50 ° C, in countries such as Russia, Cyprus, United Arab Emirates, whit a strong precipitation and humidity percentage, solar radiations close to those at the Equator and very different from the Italian weather conditions, it is advisable to request the special Eurolegno painting cycle Extreme-T.

Exposure conditions in highly aggressive natural environments: areas within 300 meters from the wave seashore (500 meters from the Ocean), or fixtures installed higher than 2,000 meters above sea level. In these cases we recommend to improve the protection of the frame with special Extreme-T finish.

ADVANTAGES OF GLULAM

Glulam: the best material for the stability of your windows Strength, uniformity and beauty make glulam the most suitable material for the construction of windows. We choose the best wood parts, provide perfect drying and overlay several counterpoint fibre lamellas increase stability to obtain a unique, high-tech and enduring product.

High resistance to stress Scientific calculations on the behaviour of the window concerning bending and cutting stress can be carried out with glulam. The elimination of defects and discontinuities increases and homogenizes the mechanical strength values. The overlap of staggered planks eliminates anisotropy, typical of wood. The calculation of the bending stress of the jambs against wind pressure can be determined with glulam: it should remain within the limits prescribed by ISO 6612.

Guaranteed and constantly checked We offer the most complete guarantee for the customer: the production of laminated XILL3 is subject to continuous internal and external controls. 100% control of humidity for each plank; automatic deletion and forwarding to the reconditioning of each plank which might have humidity levels higher than those prescribed; D4 bonding in compliance with UNI EN 204; Bonding control; pressing conditions control; product verification.

Homogeneous and regular The external faces of the glulam are selected to ensure a perfect homogeneity of the fibre and a better regularity in the smoothness of the grain. The appearance is perfectly regular, especially evident in pieces of considerable height such as French windows and curtain walls.
The removal of “dead” knots and irregularities prevents from defects due to the vibration of the plane, transversal ribs and tearing of the fibres. Stains caused by a non-uniform application of the primer can be softened.

Better impregnation and paintingThe meticulous studies carried out in Germany and the experiments of the Centre Technique du Bois et de l’Ameublement in Paris showed that many of the defects of the paint in windows are caused by not well dried wood. The use of glulam ensures that the processing of the window is always perfectly and uniformly performed with dried wood at its optimum level of use. Primer penetrates completely and homogeneously into the wood and its surface waterproof layer remains well attached to the surface, as there is no excessive moisture that raises the finish when it evaporates.
