History

Two big travertine spaces occupied by as much big sailing ships, ready to plow the sea. After all, aren’t Italians sailing people? So, the architect Marcello Piacentini decides to decorate this way the main entrance on via Bissolati (outlined in granite) of the INA Palace, National Institute of Insurance, deeply involved in the loans to reorganize the whole area where the near via Veneto will be protagonist. The INA Palace looks essential in its monumentality, even regarding its materials, travertine and bricks, except for the big granite frame at the entrance.
The Palace was built between 1937 and 1940. Today it is famous because the first scene of the Oscar winner movie “La grande bellezza” was shot on its terrace.
