Vistarino – Bellisomi Palace is a noble residence built in the Eighteenth Century, near the Ticino River, in the heart of Pavia. It is a real “Delights Villa”, with frescoed salons, rooms for music, reading and conversation, with a belvedere park, a chapel, stables.
The construction of the building was due to the will of Gaetano Annibale Bellisomi, an aristocratic from Pavia, who, around the half of the Eighteenth Century, charged it to the architect Francesco Croce from Milan. As a sign of its various intersts, Bellisomi wanted the residence to invlude a library, an antiquarian and scientific museum and a ‘wunderkammer’ with naturalistic collections.
The Palacespreads over a 5600 square meters surface. It is one of the most important examples of the Lombard Barocchetto style, and tanks to its facing the belvedere and the park, suggests a nice dialogue between the city and the river.
In the Nineteenth Century, the Counts of Vistarino, who significantly renovated it, bought the building, causing that stiles overlay which is one of the peculiarities of building, the eighteenth and the Nineteenth.
Back to a new life in 2013, after the restoration started in 2007, the Palace today is the head quarter of the University Foundation Mater Ticinensis, who organizes there high training courses, seminaries and concerts.
